A restored Freight wagon was located by Rick Wilson, Chief Ranger, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. It is very similar to the Hornbek freight wagon in need of wheels at the monument. The Friends decided to purchase the wagon with the donations collected for replacement wheels. The wagon was being sold by the woolly Bear Trading Company for $2800 plus a minor delivery fee.
Replacing the wheels on the old wagon would have cost about $1000 per wheel plus shipping and there would have been additional costs to restore the box and running gear.
Multiple security measures will be put in place with the replacement wagon..
