Free Admission and Special Programs

_7103241The National Park Service is turning 99 years old on August 25 and Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument wants to give you a present – free admission!

Come to the poark and enjoy the following special ranger programs:

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Ranger Guided HIke: Trees that Tell a Story
Join Ranger Shawn on a 2-3 hour hike to learn about the Native American connections to this area by examining culturally modified trees.

10:00 AM, Interpretive Talk
Join a ranger in the amphitheater behind the visitor center for a 20-30 minute interpretive program to learn about Florissant’s prehistory.

11:00 AM, Family Hike with a Ranger
Join Ranger Jeff on a 1 hour, family-friendly, hands-on hike on the one-mile Petrified Forest Loop.

1:00 PM-3:00 PM, Fossil Discovery Lab
See an exciting demonstration of how tiny insect and leaf fossils are found at Florissant Fossil Beds and participate in your own fossil search and microscope discovery.

3:00 PM-4:00 PM Hornbek Homestead
Tour the 1878 Hornbek Homestead and learn about an extraordinary settler, Adeline Hornbek.
