The Coldfire Project

Presentation Content Overview

The Coldfire explorations into fungal remediation and restoration began in 2014. We were initially focused on managing waste biomass and improving wildfire mitigation. Coldfire leverages the natural systems that the forest uses to recycle biomass- fungal decay. We collect primary saprophytes (wood rotters) and train them to recognize the materials we call waste as a food source. We have discovered that we can reduce piles of wood chips by 80%-90% in three years, at industrial scales, in the field. This talk will cover where we’ve been and where we’re going next. The fungal world pioneered life on the land, and the forests in particular. We think the field of mycoremediation, the use of fungi to aid in healing our planet, will become a massive discipline of study and application.
